Play Therapy: Helping Children Heal Through Play

Children don’t always have the words to express what they’re feeling. Big emotions like sadness, fear, anger, or confusion often come out through behaviors—sometimes in ways that are hard to understand. That’s where Play Therapy comes in.

At The Counselor Therapy, I use Play Therapy to meet children on their level—in their language. Through games, art, toys, storytelling, and imaginative play, children are able to express their inner world in a way that feels natural, safe, and supported.

Play Therapy helps children:

  • Process difficult emotions and life changes

  • Build emotional regulation and coping skills

  • Improve communication and social development

  • Work through anxiety, trauma, or behavioral concerns

  • Strengthen self-esteem and problem-solving abilities

As a therapist trained in working with children, I create a nurturing and structured space where your child can explore their feelings, learn new tools, and build trust at their own pace. I often incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques through age-appropriate activities that help children better understand their thoughts and actions. For children who have experienced trauma, EMDR-informed play therapy may be used to help them gently process what they’ve been through.

When appropriate, I also incorporate faith-based insights, inviting children to discover comfort and identity through their relationship with God. For families who value spirituality, we may use prayer, simple Scripture-based messages, or discussions about God’s love and strength in ways that are accessible to young hearts.

Parents and caregivers are essential partners in this work. I offer regular updates, support, and guidance to help you reinforce your child’s progress at home and strengthen the parent-child bond.

Children heal through play—and in the right environment, they can grow in resilience, confidence, and peace.
